Soccer

This year, the soccer team is working on offense, midfield, and improving overall skill. The team started out with 19 players, 9 of them seniors. Trinity lost only one player to graduation and that was Nathan Sode and gained 3 new players, 2 of them having played soccer before. As the season has gone on, the team now is down to 18 Players.
The 2008 season started on Monday nights in the summer. Those that showed up practiced a few skills and then played until it got dark. The mandatory practices started on Monday august 4th with approximately 12 players showing up while the rest were still on missions Trips with their respective churches. Full practice started the next week with the full team.  There were only seven practices before the first game. Most of them were used to organize the team and physical conditioning.
The Trinity soccer team is divided into two units, offense and defense. The defensive unit consists of a goal keeper James van, and four defenders. There are two central defenders Matt Wallace and Josh Warburton who stabilize the defense. The outside defenders (fullbacks) consist of 6 players who rotate into position: Bryan Cooper, John DeMotts, Michael Mills, Taylor Mosier, Joseph Padley, and Steven West.
The offense consists of 7 midfielders, Thomas Gibson, Troy Reynolds, Caleb Reynolds, Kevin Stox, Phillip Sloan, Tyler Garret, and Brandon Tucker, whose job is to get the ball, make a turn, beat a man, and get it to our one of our forwards. They have 3 forwards, whose job is to get the ball and score, Ryan Campanaro, Jacob Haynes, and Jeremy Stallings.
They started out with a scrimmage game against Ahoskie, then jumped straight into the season with a game against Falls Road, and came away with a 2-1 victory. The defense is standing up well, with only 4 goals allowed in 7 games. Our offense is also doing well, scoring 27 goals in 9 games.

Volleyball

So far in this year’s volleyball season the Varsity girls have put together five wins and the Junior Varsity team has four. The girls are expected to do very well this year. We asked the JV Coach, Mr. Warburton, what he wished to accomplish this year with the team. He answered, “We’ve got a pretty strong team this year. Were doing well so far, as you know we’ve picked up two wins so the ladies and I think that we should be able to do well. I mean of course if you didn’t know JV teams don’t have tournaments like Varsity does, so if we win all our matches it will be like we’re the unofficial conference champions. But you know, JV is really just getting these girls prepared and ready for the next level, which is varsity. One thing we want people to know is our theme for this JV team, which is confidence and our cheer is,” Anyone, Anytime, Anyplace. Just Serve!” But what we want people to know is that we’re not doing that to be boasting, we just feel like it gets us pumped and it wakes us up.” We also asked the Varsity coach, Keith Phillips, how he thought the Varsity girls were going to do. He said,” We should be more competitive than we have been in the past four years. If they can grasp the concept to play as a team, we should win ninety five percent of our games. We should give state a good run this year. But they have to remember to play as a team.” We even got a chance to talk to Varsity player, Brittany Tucker and she said that there team is just simply “beasty”. The teams have a lot of games left and it looks like we have a good chance of winning them. So if you have a chance come on down and support your own Trinity Tigers.
